Frequently asked questions

Ingredients: Viscose derived from organic bamboo and non-GMO cornstarch, FSC-certified wood pulp, Sumitomo SAP, PLA & PBAT, hot-melt adhesive.

Materials are tested and certified free from harmful levels of chemicals and bacteria, and comply with environmental protection and social responsibility requirements.

We use certified organic raw bamboo in our pads because it’s one of the most sustainable plants on earth. Bamboo grows in the wild without requiring any interference and naturally does not require pesticides. Additionally, bamboo consumes 10x less water to grow than organic cotton, and is softer, too. We convert bamboo into fibres (viscose) using a OEKO-TEX approved closed-loop process to ensure chemicals used during processing are never dumped, and has the least possible impact on the environment and to ensure that joni pads are completely free of any harmful levels of toxins.

joni pads are on average 92% biodegradable in 12 months under standard compost conditions and do not use conventional plastic that takes over 300 years to break down and our wrappers are certified compostable. joni pads have SAP plus food-grade non-toxic adhesives in them, which make up the 8% non-biodegradable part.

Under ideal conditions, joni pads degrade by 92% (on average) and tampons degrade by 100% within 12 months vs the decades or centuries it can take for plastic products to break down. While pads and tampons cannot generally go into municipal composts, they can be cut up and placed in some home composters. Otherwise, joni period care products can be thrown into your regular garbage. Note: tampons should never be flushed down the toilet.
